Janelle Walker and her five-year-old son Adonis were passengers in a van stopped at a red light at the intersection of North Scottsdale Road and East Stetson Drive on Feb. 28, 2025, when the vehicle was struck from behind. Both were injured and needed months of extensive medical and chiropractic treatment. Thankfully, both eventually recovered from their physical injuries.
Adonis was experiencing lower back pain after the accident. Janelle took him to multiple pediatric physical therapy appointments as he slowly recovered.

Janelle, who moved to Phoenix from Brooklyn, N.Y. four years ago, said neither she nor Adonis had ever been in an automobile accident prior to this one. It was a jarring experience.
“I was numb and didn’t even know what was really hurting right after we were hit,” she said. “I kept thinking ‘What in the world is happening?’”
She said she immediately turned around and checked Adonis, who was sitting in the back seat.
“The accident came out of the blue and caught me off guard,” she said. “I didn’t have a chance to protect myself or my son. My main concern was for him, and he was very upset because he saw that I was hurt.”
“I remember calling 911 but everything else is kind of a fog,” Janelle said.
After emergency room doctors treated their injuries and determined that they were not life-threatening, Janelle and Adonis were released.
A day later, still shaken and sore, she returned to her position as a line cook at a local restaurant. She told her boss that she had spoken to an insurance representative for one of the drivers, and the conversation left her feeling uncomfortable.
“The more I thought about it, I realized this wasn’t my fault and I shouldn’t have to pay for the damage,” Janelle said. “I felt like they (the insurance companies) were going to use what I was telling them against me. I didn’t trust them, so I decided to find somebody that would stand up for me.”
After work that evening, Janelle started searching online for an attorney. The next day, she contacted three firms but came away disappointed.
“It felt like they were just looking for a transaction,” she said.

Within weeks of the collision, Janelle learned she had lost her pregnancy. Just a few months later, her mother passed away.
